[Event "Live Chess"] [Site "Chess.com"] [Date "2012.03.09"] [White "philip12"] [Black "Headband"] [Result "0-1"] [WhiteElo "1299"] [BlackElo "1190"] [TimeControl "15|10"] [Termination "Headband won by resignation"] 1.e4 c6 2.a3 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4. d4 {Despite white’s early a3, the central pawn structure is now that of the Caro-Kann exchange variation} f6 {Instead of the more classic immediate Bf5 or Nc6. My first reason for choosing this is to form a direct pawn attack on the center. My second reason is that I prefer preceding Bf5 with Ne7 to protect it}5.h3 {This, like 2. a3, seems to waste time by not opening up squares for minor pieces or directly participating in the attack. 5. Nf3 seems better by developing while protecting against e5}e5?? {This was a blunder. After 6. dxe5 fxd5 7. Qh5+ g6 8. Qxe5+} 6.c3? {missing dxe5} Nc6 7.Bb5 a6{I initially wanted to force the exchange in order to have a pawn on the c file supporting d4, but in retrospect 8. Bxc6+ bxc6 leaves e5 hanging so I should have immediately played Bd6} 8.Bxc6+ bxc6 9.Nf3? {again missing dxe5}exd4{this mistakenly opens a file for his rooks. e4 would have been better by obtaining more kingside space with tempo } 10.Nxd4 c5 11.Nf3 Bd6?? {Blunders a pawn with 12. Qxd5. Also, this seems like an impulsive move without any goal in mind} 12.O-O? {Missing the free pawn} Ne7 13.Re1 O-O 14.Qb3 {Allows my rook into the semi-open b file with tempo} Rb8 15.Qa2 {better would be Qd1 with more chances for movement and attack} c4 16.Be3 Rb5{Aiming towards eventually doubling rooks on the b file. This was premature due to possible moves such as 17. Nd4 centralizing the white knight with tempo} 17.Bd4 {clearing the e file for a rook battery} Bf5 18.Nbd2 Qd7{Better would have been to immediately start the b file attack with Qb8} 19.Rac1? {Serves no purpose. a4 to kick the rook back would have been better}Rfb8 20.b4? {In order to stop the queenside attack, Shredder recommends sacrificing knight for two pawns 20. Nxc4 dxc4 21. Qxcr+ Kh8 22.b4} cxb3 21.Qb2 Qb7{Better would have been the forcing move Ra5} 22.Nh4? {Not threatening anything, queenside needs to be defended} Ra5 23.Nb1 Qb5{Allows white potential counter-play with 24. Rxe7 Bxb1 25. Rxg7+ Kxg7. Better would have been to win the a3 pawn immediately with Bxb1} 24.Nxf5 Nxf5 25.Re6 Qa4 26.Rce1 Bxa3 27.Qe2 h6?? {Enormous blunder that gives the advantage back to white. 28. Rb6 Rxb6 29. Bxb6 Kh7 (29…b2 30.Qe6+ Kh7 31.Qxf5) 30.Bxa5} 28.Nxa3 Qxa3? {Again missing the Rb6 threat. 28…Nxd4 would have been best here} 29.Re8+ Rxe8 30.Qxe8+ Kh7 31.Qe2 0-1
